
Jean Dakar
Cinematographer, producer, co-founder
IDA award-winning cinematographer and producer of The Tale of Silyan.
Jean Dakar was born to Syrian-Turkish parents and raised between Germany, Spain and the UK. He studied Film Production at Arts University Bournemouth and began his career as a cinematographer in London.
His work explores environmental and sociopolitical subjects and has taken him from Mozambique to the Siberian Arctic. He began collaborating with Tamara Kotevska on The Walk in 2021.
At Ciconia, he works as a cinematographer, producer and co-founder. His cinematography for The Tale of Silyan received the 2025 IDA Documentary Award.
